11 Reasons to Be a Home Business Entrepreneur

home business entrepreneurIn the past, I’ve discussed your “why”…the reason you first wanted to become a home business entrepreneur and the reason you keep going when things get rough.

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, it is possible you haven’t found your “why” yet. AND if you’ve been trying, but lately you’ve felt things slipping or an overall lack of motivation, you may need a reminder of your “why.”

The “why” is different for different people. I don’t literally know everyone’s “why.” However, I do know many common reasons people want to become home business entrepreneurs because they tell me.

Here are 11 common reasons you may want to be a home business entrepreneur.

1. You can work in your pajamas. Regardless of whether your previous work dress code involved a business suit or a McDonald’s cap, home business entrepreneurs can wear whatever they want. You’ve seen my videos…I am quite comfortable in t-shirt and jeans. I’m the boss; I decide the dress code.

2. You learn something new everyday. Nobody knows everything when they start in the business. While I’m masterful at internet marketing, I didn’t know the first thing about actually creating a website when I first started. Since then, I’ve learned how to hire someone, who knows all about web design. Seriously though, you learn a lot as you grow and become more successful.

3. You have job security. A while back, I repeated the phrase “the money didn’t leave the planet.” I still believe that statement. Despite the high unemployment, the money is still here; people are just spending in different ways. Finding a new way to make money is the key to success. As long as you can think outside the traditionally model (i.e. getting a job = making money). You can create your own job security.

4. You can create jobs. You can help others by getting so successful you need to hire others to help you run your business. I have several people who work for me. I not only helped my personal economy, I’ve helped the greater economy by reducing unemployment.

5. It monetizes hobbies you already have. Maybe you’ve been blogging for years or you already spend hours a day on social media. Why not make a few changes and monetize your hobbies. You can still spend your time doing the things you enjoy, but you can make money too.

6. You can earn passive income. A passive income means making money off a previous effort. While many passive income opportunities are small, they add up quickly. Over time, your passive income can become a significant part of your overall income.

7. You will always love your boss. You can’t really complain about your boss when you are the boss. No more dealing with workplace conflict, unreasonable schedules, or office etiquette.

8. You don’t have to quit your day job until you’re ready. Becoming a home business entrepreneur doesn’t mean you have to quit your job and live on hope. I actually recommend you don’t quit your day job…at least not right away. Online businesses provide a great deal of flexibility, which can allow you to maintain a regular job. Then, when you are making a comfortable living online, you can say good bye to your day job.

home business entrepreneur9. You can travel while you work. Remember not too long ago I was traveling Europe for a couple weeks. Despite my travels, I was still making money. I didn’t have to request days off, use up my vacation time, beg others to cover my shifts…nothing. I was able to keep in touch with my people while overseas, and I had a great time.

10. You can work the hours that best suit your unique nature. Some people are naturally morning people, while others are night owls. You can finally work during the hours you are naturally most productive. While traditional jobs do not always provide that luxury, online businesses allow you to work whenever you want and from wherever you want.

11. There is literally unlimited growth potential. You are the only one that can limit your potential. Even if an industry dries up, being a home business entrepreneur provides you with unlimited flexibility. Even if you start out in one specific niche, you can change courses, expand, or diversify whenever you want. As I said, you are the only one who can limit your potential.

Now, not all of these may apply to your specifically. Perhaps, you have no interest in traveling. Personally, I love it, but not everyone does. Maybe your “why” is being able to spend more time with your kids or to have the opportunity to spend more time volunteering. Maybe you are draw to becoming a home business entrepreneur because it provides the best opportunity for you to make significant money.

It doesn’t actually matter what you “why” is as long as it is a strong enough reason to make you want to work for it. Your “why” needs to fill you with a motivational drive to succeed.

  1. Hi Devon,

I just love the commute when I work at home – it’s seconds rather than minutes or hours! Also, when I want a break, I don’t have to ask permission.
