15 Motivational Quotes by Dale Carnegie

Dale CarnegieGenerally, business related websites will post motivational quotes by successful entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs or Donald Trump. Not today…today I’m going to go a little old school. These are inspirational and motivational quotes from Dale Carnegie.

Dale Carnegie was a motivational writer and speaker back in the 30s and 40s. He developed classes for people on personal development, salesmanship, public speaking, interpersonal skills, and corporate training.

If you read one of his books, like How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936), you’ll realize his writings are the basis of many current business practices. Especially when it comes to industries like sales, he was a master, and people are still taking the courses he designed.

Here is just a sampling of his amazing ideas and lessons.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”

“Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.”

“There are four ways, and only four ways, in which we have contact with the world. We are evaluated and classified by these four contacts: what we do, how we look, what we say, and how we say it.”

“People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.”

“The man who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare.”

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”

“Feeling sorry for yourself, and your present condition, is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have.”

“Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.”

“The successful man will profit from his mistakes and try again in a different way.”

“Fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in the mind.”

“There are four ways, and only four ways, in which we have contact with the world. We are evaluated and classified by these four contacts: what we do, how we look, what we say, and how we say it.”

“First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst.”

“Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves.”

“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”

“There is only one way… to get anybody to do anything. And that is by making the other person want to do it.”

So, there you have it.  Although I would love to take credit for these great thoughts, I can only repeat them for you to enjoy.

These are golden nuggets of wisdom. Some of these quotes are painfull to accept and require character to live by. One of the most astounding is the one about people who accomplished important things when there seemed to be no hope at all of a successfull outcome.

  4. These are some awesome quotes Devon, just what I needed right now, as I’ve been feeling discouraged and a bit down the last couple of days.
I especially like the one about doing the hard jobs first. That’s so true, but the opposite to what most of us tend to do. I’ve found from my experience that if there’s something you really don’t want to do, the best thing is to do it right away, otherwise you just find more and more things to do urgently to put off slaying the monster. Much better to get it out of the way.

  5. Thank for the quotes! I sure needed them this morning! Have to stay on the grind everyday! Love what you do.

If only I could find a way to constantly read those inspirational quotes throughout the day and everyday…
Wait! What am I saying, there are so many ways that can be done, provided that I’m willing to take actions.

Thanks Devon, those 6 minutes spent reading these quotes were certainly one of the most important moments of the day.

  9. Very inspiring quotes we all reflect on and believer but quote #1 put it best.

I was given that book “How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936)” sadly to say. I should have read it and practice it.

Yes, I know am ready to read it, now. I think I’ll go out and find the book.

And thank Devon for the “The Go-Giver” real enjoyed it as the much as “The Greatest Salesman in the World”.

    Thanks for sharing the quotes!

I love these types of quotes. It’s great to see the “old school” quotes back in action. I will be buying this book. 🙂
