business successWarren Buffet didn’t always depend on advance business strategies like a guru. He based his business on the simplest strategies that made sense. These “secrets” to business success are based mostly on common sense and keeping it simple.

Coming up are five secrets to how he succeeded so well in his business ventures.

Secret 1: Choose the right venture for you
You have your own talents and skills. If you’re going into business, use the talents and skills that you already have. If you try learning new stuff in run your business, you’ll go belly up before you know it. It’s always good to learn new things, but let what you know and what you’re good at be the primary drivers to your business.

When deciding your venture, do not pick something you hate or don’t find entertaining or fun. Rather, pick something related to a particular hobby or passion you have. There is a way to turn everything into a successful business. It might take a bit of creativity, but if you love what you’re doing and good at it, you can and will succeed.

It is impossible to have a business venture without problems. However, there are simple problems that you can fix easily without much difficulty. If you’re having trouble getting going, there might have been a problem in the initial stages of your business that wasn’t properly resolved. Know when you need to reevaluate your process or even start over. Don’t waste your energy and time making a failing venture work.

“Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching the leak.” -Buffet

Secret 2: Less is more
One of my former teachers use to say, “Do it smarter, not harder.” There are many ways to accomplish tasks. Some are easier than others. Do the easy methods. They save you time and energy and make your business life all the sweeter.

Don’t take unnecessary risks when there are easier investments nearby. Not everything is an all-in bet in Vegas. If there are easy ways to make money through your business, start with those methods to make more money for your time.

“Risk comes from not knowing what you are doing.” – Buffet

Now, I know people are often looking for the hidden “secret” to success, but it doesn’t exist. Succeeding in business is as easy as lying down to go to sleep. Common sense dictates it’s easier to sleep lying down than standing up. The same common sense can drive your business.

Secret 3: Make your business a reflection of you

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it. If you think about that you’ll do things differently.”  – Buffet

Be honest about your business and what it stands for. In the business world, cheating to make short term success will eventually kill your business.

Always think about the customer. The moment you stop is the moment you start working backwards. It will be the beginning of the end. Profit comes from your happy customers. Give them things they’ll want and use, and they’ll keep coming back for more.

Choose your friends wisely. Pick friends in your niche who are smarter and more experienced than you. The reason is simple. They have so much for you to learn and implement into your business. Whatever you do, do not be arrogant and think you know everything. It will kill your business.

“It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.” – Buffet

“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Buffet

Slow and steady wins the race. Have patience and be consistent about everything healthy you do. Good business habits will push you towards success. If you do everything right, success will come to you.

Create a vision for your business and look many years out into the future. Think about where you want your business to go. Then do everything in your power to put your business on the path towards your vision. A successful business is always driven by vision.

Always produce the highest quality work you can. One, it makes people happy in the short term. Two, it makes them come back happily in the long term to buy more products. Three, they spread your happiness and bring you more customers.

Secret 5: Always displays confidence
Now this is going to sound completely cheesy, but always believe in yourself and your business. If you can’t even believe in that, you shouldn’t be in business. Be sincerely confident and you will succeed.

“I always knew I was going to be rich. I don’t think I ever doubted it for a minute.” – Buffet

There are two kinds of critique. Constructive and deconstructive. Be ready to learn from the first and ignore the second. One makes your business better while the other clouds your judgment and distracts you.

“A public-opinion poll is no substitution for thought.” – Buffet

Do your best. Notice I didn’t tell you to be perfect. Only to give it your best effort and be happy with the results when they are positive.

These are 5 of the most important “secrets” to success you’ll ever get. If you want to experience real, long-term business success, you need to keep it simple, stick with what you love, be honest, use common sense and display genuine confidence.
