Most newbies started their internet business as an affiliate marketer after they learned about the awesome marketplace called “ClickBank”!

So they grab an affiliate link for a Clickbank product and start promoting and sending traffic to offers all over the place, hoping to make a sale.

Sure, some of them will make a sale or two, but they soon realized that they are not making consistent income and their online business is not very sustainable.

So what is the big mistake they are making?

The Customer Doesn’t Belong To Them!

When you make an affiliate sales, you get a nice commission for your effort. The only problem is that a one time commission is all you get. What you don’t get is the customer. He belongs to the guy who paid you the affiliate commission. He will then go and sell additional products to the customer and you won’t see a dime of it, even though you were the one who brought him the customer.

Real businesses are built on repeat customers buying more and more stuff from you. How long do you think you can stay in business by using a business model that tells you to spend money on advertising to get a customer for someone else?

The money is in the list

Here is a secret to making money online. The big money is not in the first sales. The big money is in the sales after the first sale. The affiliate marketingproblem with sending traffic to the direct sales page is you only get paid on the first sale. Have you ever wondered why there are affiliate programs that pay 100% commissions? It’s because the buyers are now in their “buyers List” and they can sell to them again and again.

The Solution

What you should do is have a Sales Funnel in place when you want to send traffic to your affiliate offer. A typical Sales Funnel consist of a Squeeze Page, Special Offer/ One-time Offer (in this case, your affiliate offer) and a Thank you page.

After you send traffic to your squeeze page, those who opt-in will be re-directed to the affiliate offer. Those who decided to purchase your affiliate product, will still go to the owner “buyers list”, but this time you already have them in your email list. Which means, you also have the buyers in your list.

You’re probably asking: what if they decided not to buy? Don’t fret! They are still in your email list. You can send them a follow-up email with your thank you page, which consist of your affiliate product banners/link that allow them to re-visit the offer. Send them a few more follow-ups on the affiliate offer to get them interested.

These are now your customers too, and this is how you can become a successful affiliate marketer. You build a list and earn money at the same time!
